AT&T has started unlocking iPhones for defence personnel who are working in other countries due to different reasons. They started this process from Sunday onwards and after unlocking the model it can be used with overseas carriers. According to the company the account of the customer should be managed properly and it should not be in connection with the active term commitment. They further stated that all the contract terms should be completed properly or the termination fee should be paid if any.

AT&T is doing it by own and it is a big move which can be very useful to many defence personnel as they can use their iPhone in other countries as well. There are a number of examples where people were submitting the request for it earlier but their request were not accepted. Now it can be very beneficial for many people as they can contact with their loved ones with ease as they can use local SIM of the area. This process of unlocking requires restore along with backup and it needs the utilization of iTunes for it.

Some reports are also confirming that AT&T is going a step further and they are unlocking those models also which are under the contract. They are not providing information about it officially however they are doing it for goodwill. A number of U.S. military branches are now using iPhone. They also brought app marketplace last month and it is a big step towards the use of the power of iPhone.
